About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented
Functional Automation QA Engineer
with 3–5 years of hands-on experience in functional, regression, and automation testing of web and/or API-based applications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and executing test scenarios, developing and maintaining automated test scripts, identifying defects, and ensuring the quality and reliability of software applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and execute functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end test cases based on business and technical requirements
- Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts for web applications using automation frameworks such as
Selenium/Playwright/Cypress, or similar
- Analyze business requirements, functional specifications, and user stories to identify test scenarios and coverage
- Create and maintain test plans, test cases, test data, and automation scripts
- Perform functional testing to validate application features against defined business requirements
- Execute regression and smoke testing during application releases and enhancements
- Identify, document, and track defects using tools such as
JIRA
and work closely with development teams for resolution
- Perform API testing using tools such as
Postman, REST Assured, or similar
- Validate UI functionality, business workflows, data validation, error handling, and cross-browser compatibility
- Execute automated test suites and analyze test execution results and failures
- Maintain and enhance existing automation frameworks and reusable test components
- Participate in defect triage, root cause analysis, and retesting of resolved defects
- Integrate automated test scripts with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as
Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar
- Perform database validation using SQL queries to verify backend data and application transactions
- Prepare test execution reports, defect reports, and test summary reports
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, Developers, Product Owners, and other QA team members throughout the SDLC
- Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
- Support UAT activities and assist business users during validation cycles
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field
3–5 years of experience in Functional and Automation Testing
Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC), Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and defect life cycle
- Hands-on experience with automation tools/frameworks such as
Selenium / Playwright / Cypress
or similar
- Strong programming/scripting skills in
Java, JavaScript, TypeScript or similar
Page Object Model (POM), data-driven testing, and reusable automation frameworks
- Experience in writing and maintaining automated test scripts and test suites
- Hands-on experience with
API testing
using Postman, REST Assured, or similar tools
- Knowledge of performance testing tools such as JMeter is an added advantage
- Good knowledge of
SQL
for database validation and backend testing
JIRA
or similar defect/test management tools
Git/GitHub/GitLab
or other version control systems
- Good understanding of web application testing, browser compatibility, and responsive UI testing
- Experience working in
Agile/Scrum
development environments
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
