Job Description

Summary: The Deputy General Manager - PCRI plays a pivotal role in advancing pediatric cancer research at CanKids through strategic leadership, rigorous data-driven decision-making, and robust program management. Reporting to the CPMO, this position is central to the success of the Pediatric Cancer Research Institute (PCRI), driving the design, execution, and dissemination of high-impact research initiatives. The incumbent will lead the development and implementation of research protocols, oversee data collection and analysis systems, and ensure the application of advanced monitoring and evaluation frameworks. By strengthening institutional capacity, fostering collaboration across departments, and securing external funding, the role ensures that research outcomes directly inform service improvements and contribute to enhanced patient outcomes. The position is instrumental in positioning PCRI as a leading center for pediatric oncology research in India and beyond.

Responsibilities:

Lead the conception, planning, and execution of research studies, including writing proposals, developing study protocols, and designing data collection tools. Oversee end-to-end research operations: staff training, data collection, quality assurance, monitoring, and analysis. Ensure efficient and accurate data management processes, leveraging technology to strengthen the M&E framework and Management Information System. Analyze data to generate evidence-based insights that inform project programming, policy, and strategic decision-making. Manage departmental and project budgets, ensuring optimal resource allocation and financial accountability. Lead recruitment, supervision, and capacity-building of research staff; foster a culture of continuous learning and performance excellence. Engage with the PCRI Advisory Committee, Board members, and key stakeholders to align research priorities with organizational goals. Foster interdepartmental coordination with other CanKids units to ensure seamless integration of research into broader programmatic activities. Develop and maintain systems for research governance, including ethics committee setup and project dashboards for real-time monitoring and reporting. Prepare and submit grant proposals to secure funding for research initiatives and departmental projects. Lead the dissemination of research findings through high-quality publications, presentations at national and international conferences, and technical support for peer review. Support Pan-India research activities and represent PCRI at regional and national forums. Manage documentation and knowledge management systems to ensure compliance, transparency, and continuity. Execute specific research projects such as Access India, CVC Study, RT Mapping Study, and CHSU Evaluation, with a focus on generating actionable evidence for improving pediatric cancer outcomes.

Requirements

Requirements:

Master’s degree or PhD in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Social Sciences, or a related field. Proven

experience

in managing large-scale research projects, preferably in public health or pediatric oncology. Strong expertise in research methodology, study design, and data analysis using tools such as SPSS, MINITAB, and Excel. Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt) or equivalent program management training. Proficiency in project management tools including Gantt Charts, CPM, and Project Charters. Demonstrated ability to write and publish research manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.

Experience

in grant writing and securing external funding for research programs. Excellent leadership, team management, and stakeholder engagement skills. Strong organizational and analytical abilities with attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across diverse teams and geographic locations.

Experience

with setting up research governance structures (e.g., ethics committees) and digital dashboards for monitoring.
