Job Description

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As an Assistant Manager - SCPC within the Buying department at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring efficient planning and procurement of parts spanning four key platforms: LTV, MHCV, U202, and W201. Managing approximately 800 to 1000 parts per platform, you will coordinate and liaise with suppliers across multiple geographies to facilitate a diversified material supply chain, both locally and globally.

Your responsibilities include:

Developing and executing procurement strategies that align with the company’s objectives and market dynamics, especially focusing on the agricultural equipment segment.

Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to forecast material requirements, ensuring timely availability for production schedules without inventory surplus.

Implementing robust material cost benchmarking processes to attain competitive pricing and cost optimisation across all platforms.

Driving initiatives aimed at reducing inventory carrying costs by enhancing inventory turnover and minimising excess stock.

Engaging suppliers through strategic negotiations and relationship management to maintain high-quality standards and supply reliability.

Identifying and segmenting suppliers to support diversified sourcing strategies and mitigate risks associated with single-source dependencies.

Participating in new product introduction activities by aligning procurement and supply chain processes with vehicle launch timelines.

Supporting and contributing to the digitisation and analytics transformation projects within the supply chain to enhance procurement visibility, data-driven decision-making, and process efficiencies.

Monitoring supplier performance, conducting periodic reviews, and facilitating continuous improvement initiatives to foster supplier development.

Ensuring adherence to internal compliance standards and regulatory requirements relevant to procurement and supply chain activities.

Collaborating with the logistics and operations teams to streamline inward movement and warehousing of procured goods, facilitating seamless production flow.

This role requires a proactive approach in managing complex supply chains, strong communication skills to negotiate and influence stakeholders, and a strategic mindset for continuous improvement and cost management.

Education Qualification

The ideal candidate for the Assistant Manager - SCPC position should hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably in Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field that imparts a solid foundation in manufacturing processes, materials management, and industrial engineering principles.

Educational credentials should reflect:

A degree from an accredited university or technical institution ensuring rigorous academic standards.

Knowledge of procurement, manufacturing processes, and supply chain fundamentals acquired through formal education, complemented by practical exposure if possible.

Familiarity with production engineering concepts and mechanical systems is advantageous, given the role’s involvement with agricultural equipment and vehicle platforms.

Additional certifications related to supply chain management, procurement practices, or project management such as APICS CPIM, CSCP, or PMP can be considered favorable and represent a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Continuous learning and the willingness to update skills aligned with industry trends and technology advancements in supply chain digitisation are encouraged in the role.

General Experience

Applicants should bring substantial professional experience spanning 10 to 12 years, predominantly in Supply Chain Management (SCM), Sourcing, Materials Management, or relevant Operations functions.

This extensive experience is expected to demonstrate:

A progressive track record in managing complex supply chains, procurement activities, and supplier networks across multiple locations and product lines.

At least 3 to 4 years specifically focused on SCM or Sourcing to showcase depth in procurement strategies, supplier negotiations, and cost control mechanisms.

Hands-on experience in operational roles supporting supply chain functions would be beneficial, enhancing the candidate's holistic understanding of end-to-end material flows.

The ability to manage large portfolios of parts – upwards of 1000 – reflects necessary exposure to overseeing substantial procurement volumes and diverse supplier ecosystems.

Experience working within manufacturing sectors, especially in agricultural or automotive industries, will provide valuable context for the responsibilities tied to this role. Candidates should also illustrate experience with deploying innovative supply chain solutions, system improvements, and process optimisations.

Critical Experience

Critical experiences required for this role include:

Leadership of multi-hub and multi-plant buying operations, showcasing strong competencies in managing distributed supplier networks and coordinating procurement activities across various locations at scale.

Demonstrated exposure to Centralised Procurement Planning and Control (CPPC) systems and logistical frameworks, ensuring synchronized supply chain execution and inventory management.

A proven track record in driving digitisation and analytics transformation projects within SCM or its sub-functions, underlining capability in adapting to emerging technologies and data-driven supply chain management.

Experience handling national and potentially global supplier networks, facilitating strategic supplier development initiatives, and mitigating supply risks effectively.

The candidate should exhibit strong leadership in change management, capable of steering teams through process enhancements and embracing innovative procurement practices.

A history of successfully integrating strategic sourcing with cost optimisation efforts, vendor negotiations, and sustainability-focused procurement strategies will be highly advantageous. Candidates with prior engagement in agricultural equipment or automotive supply chains will find the transition seamless due to overlapping complexities and industry standards.
