Substation Design Engineer– Secondary

A Snapshot of Your Day (Senior Executive – Secondary Engineering)

As a Senior Executive – Secondary Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in delivering engineering solutions for High Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) projects across India and global markets. You will be responsible for designing secondary engineering systems, preparing control philosophies, developing wiring schematics, and ensuring the successful execution of customer and factory engineering activities.

In this role, you will lead a team of engineers while collaborating closely with manufacturing, project management, and customer stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineering solutions. You will contribute to multiple substation projects by developing detailed engineering documentation, ensuring compliance with international standards, and supporting Siemens Energy's commitment to innovation and operational excellence. We are looking for an experienced electrical engineering professional with strong expertise in GIS secondary engineering, substation design, and customer-focused project execution.

How You'll Make an Impact

• Lead and guide a team of 3-4 engineers, ensuring the successful execution of customer and factory-related engineering activities.

• Design control philosophies and wiring schematics for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) systems in accordance with project and customer requirements.

• Develop process-level drawings and engineering documentation for High Voltage devices used within GIS substations.

• Execute secondary engineering activities for multiple domestic and international substation projects while maintaining quality, schedule, and delivery commitments.

• Prepare Bills of Material (BOM) and General Arrangement (GA) drawings for Local Control Cubicles incorporating conventional devices and Bay Control Units (BCU).

• Support engineering activities for the High Voltage Manufacturing Hub and ensure adherence to global engineering standards and best practices.

• Review customer specifications and technical requirements to deliver customized engineering solutions.

• Collaborate with project teams, manufacturing units, and customers to ensure smooth project execution and timely resolution of technical issues.

• Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable international and Indian standards, customer specifications, and quality requirements.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives by sharing best practices, lessons learned, and innovative engineering solutions.

• Support technical reviews, design optimization activities, and engineering change management processes.

• Contribute to enhancing engineering efficiency through the effective utilization of digital tools and modern design methodologies.

What You Bring

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering with 8-10 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 6-8 years of experience, or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 4-6 years of relevant experience.

• Hands-on experience in secondary engineering and design for Air Insulated Substations (AIS) and/or Gas Insulated Substations (GIS).

• Strong expertise in GIS control and protection systems, wiring schematics, control philosophies, and substation engineering practices.

• Experience in designing and executing multiple substation projects for domestic and international customers.

• Proficiency in engineering design tools such as AutoCAD, ELCAD, and EPLAN.

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other engineering productivity tools.

• Strong understanding of High Voltage switchgear systems, Local Control Cubicles, Bay Control Units (BCU), and associated substation equipment.

• In-depth knowledge of international standards, Indian standards, and utility-specific engineering requirements.

• Experience preparing Bills of Material (BOM), General Arrangement (GA) drawings, engineering documents, and technical specifications.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex customer specifications and technical requirements.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, project management, and customer teams.

• Proven ability to lead engineering teams and deliver projects within schedule, quality, and cost objectives.

• Professional proficiency in English with strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.

• Willingness to travel as required to support project execution, customer interactions, and business needs.
