Staff Enterprise Engineer (Storage)

About the role

LinkedIn is seeking a Staff Enterprise Engineer specializing in storage and backup solutions with a robust background in automation to contribute to our mission of revolutionizing data protection and storage architectures. In this capacity, you will oversee the architectural design, operational management, and reliability of enterprise-scale storage and backup systems across hybrid environments, including Microsoft Azure. This role requires technical leadership to drive operational excellence through automation and strategic engineering improvements. You will lead critical infrastructure programs and act as a primary technical escalation point for resolving performance and reliability issues to ensure the availability of our global services.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise storage and backup platforms across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for storage, backup, recovery, and performance-related incidents.
• Plan and execute infrastructure deployments, upgrades, migrations, and technology refresh initiatives.
• Develop automation and operational tooling using Python and PowerShell to improve efficiency, consistency, and reliability.
• Implement and maintain monitoring, reporting, capacity planning, and performance management processes.
• Design and support high availability, disaster recovery, replication, and data protection solutions.
• Collaborate with cloud, virtualization, network, security, and application teams on infrastructure projects and operational initiatives.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and architectural standards.
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
• Participate in a global on-call rotation and support critical production incidents.

Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise storage, backup, or infrastructure platforms.
• Experience with enterprise storage and data protection technologies in production environments.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure services.
• Proficiency in automation and scripting using Python and PowerShell.
• Experience supporting business-critical production environments and participating in on-call rotations.
• Experience with troubleshooting, incident management, and root cause analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Pure Storage, NetApp, Nasuni, Rubrik, Azure Backup, or similar enterprise platforms.

• Understanding of SAN, NAS, object storage, snapshots, replication, disaster recovery, and data lifecycle management.

• Knowledge of Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NFS, SMB/CIFS, zoning, and multipathing.

• Experience supporting VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms.

• Familiarity with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience with capacity planning, performance optimization, operational reporting, and infrastructure monitoring.

• Experience leading cross-functional technical investigations and infrastructure initiatives.
