Our Credits and Incentives practice (CIM) focuses on expansion and growth, with a history of nurturing the development and progression of our valued team members. We are a national team of engineers, scientists, technologists, and financial professionals who specialize in identifying and securing government funding, with teams focusing on SR&ED, Grants, Digital Media tax credits, and other incentive programs.

We invite skilled Engineers, Technologists, Scientists, and technically adept professionals to join our exceptional Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) team. As a SR&ED consultant, you will play an integral role towards advancing our clients’ innovative research initiatives. You will assist with a variety of files preparing SR&ED claims, helping the RSM SR&ED Team become a trusted advisor through providing insightful best practices and immersing yourself in the diverse industries of our client base.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Associate to join our SR&ED team:

• Working with the SR&ED Technical Lead, collaborate on files to understand the SR&ED opportunities and client expectations to meet, and exceed, our commitment to clients.
• Prepare SR&ED submissions, the technical reports and identifying eligible expenses, with an unerring commitment to the SR&ED criteria and RSM standards. Impress the RSM SR&ED Technical Lead by collaborating on files with your insight and ability to distill complex and challenging technical projects from available documentation and discussions into succinct and clear descriptions of technological advancements and experimental work for their review. Identify and deliver on opportunities to ensure all eligible aspects and expenses of the work is identified and captured, supporting the development of logical rationales to claim those expenses.
• Collaborate with our adept Financial Team and SR&ED Technical Leads to identify eligible costs, formulate strategic plans, document rationale to claim expenses, and guarantee a seamless claims preparation process with clear and efficient internal communications.
• Participate in preparing defense strategies and presentations under the guidance of the SR&ED Technical Lead and Finance Team. Prepare the defense to be clear, concise, and organized, proactively addressing any CRA questions and instilling confidence in our clients with our expertise and professionalism.
• Stay abreast of changes to SR&ED federal and provincial programs and other relevant tax incentives. Research scenarios as asked, reviewing the Income Tax Act, CRA policies, and relevant case law to identify opportunities to strengthen and expand SR&ED opportunities or defense and review your findings with the Technical Lead.
• Use your proficiency in Microsoft products and platforms, including advanced technologies, to accelerate your research and efficiency while keeping high quality and a critical eye as the utmost priority.

Required Qualifications

• Candidates having previous SR&ED experience would be at a strong advantage, although we also value potential and a learning mindset. SR&ED experience in Information Technology, Software, Communications Technology or similar fields is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Applied Science, Technology, or Diploma in Information Technology, Software, Communications Technology or related technologies from an accredited institution is required.
• Several years’ experience in your field of expertise with demonstrated strengths in performance and achievements.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, with the aptitude to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.
• Exhibit exemplary teamwork, marked by effective communication, empathy, and solution-oriented approaches.
• Ability to flourish in both autonomous and team-based environments, contributing to collective goals and milestones.
• Be self-motivated, with an unwavering commitment to delivering quality work that echoes professionalism and excellence.
• Possess the capabilities to excel and adapt within a dynamic, fast-paced workplace while navigating complex tasks to deliver highest quality work to clients.
• To effectively provide outstanding client experience, it is essential to have the ability to juggle multiple client assignments, prioritize tasks, and work autonomously to meet deadlines.
• This role requires effective verbal and written communications and the ability to work professionally with other individuals and groups, ranging from RSM colleagues, to accounting partners, and to leadership.
• Proficiency in Microsoft products and advanced technology platforms and adopting best practices to support your work and research will drive efficiency and collaboration with colleagues.
