What the role entails – Key accountabilities/ responsibilities
1. Provide advice to those requesting information about the choice of tests, the use of the laboratory service and the interpretation of laboratory data.
2. Serve as an active member of the medical staff in main lab, collection center,
3. Relate and function effectively with NABL & other accrediting agencies, Appropriate administrative officials, healthcare community, the patient / clients.
4. Define, implement, and monitor standards of performance and quality improvement of the medical laboratory service orservices.
5. Monitor all processes in the laboratory to determine that reliable data is being generated.
6. Ensure availability of sufficiently qualified personnel with adequate training and experience to meet the needs of the laboratory.
7. Plan, set goals, develop, and allocate resources appropriate to the medical environment.
8. Provide effective and efficient administration of the medical laboratory service, including budget planning and control with responsible financial management, in accordance with institutional assignment of such responsibilities.
9. Provide educational programs for the medical and laboratory staff and participate in educational programs of the institution.
10. Implement a safe laboratory environment in compliance with good practice and applicable regulations.
11. Address any complaint, request, or suggestion from users of laboratory services. Ensure good staff morale.
12. Report authorization of Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunoassay, Clinical Pathology, and serology
13. Routine review of QC for all departments with review of reports including CBC, MP, PS, Reticulocyte count, Fluid routine, ICT/DCT, Blood group before approving
14. Formulate review and recheck policies for all tests and ensure compliance with the help of Lab supervisor and technicians.
15. Verification of critical, unusual, and abnormal test results before release
16. Interpret, Correlate, and generate medically significant laboratory data.
17. Attending all sorts of client queries related to test enquiries and interpretation of test results.
18. Approval of SOPs for use and ensure compliance with respect to accreditation requirements.
19. Ensure review of monthly MIS
20. Ensure results are reported within turnaround time with the help of section head.
21. Review and improvement of reports formats.
22. To identify new equipment, tests, technology, products and standardization of assays.
23. Identify needs for resources (human/equipment/infrastructure) and submit to senior management for approval.
24. Attending conferences/workshops to ensure updated knowledge about recent trends.
25. To spend time reviewing daily pendency status on reports not released as well as sample received cases to avoid patient dissatisfaction.
26. To keep a watchful eye on instrument maintenance and hygiene of lab and practice ‘0’ tolerance in this area. Any instrument failure due to user’s should be avoided totally as it affects our patient and business.
27. To ensure sample processing is not stopped due to KIT non availability.
28. To ensure that every PR is approved on time and any gaps are highlighted.
29. COL/ Lab Head should work with BU Heads in forecasting CAMP’s and other seasonal activities and order KITs sufficiently.
30. To keep a close watch on technical complaints. Ensure analytical complaints get logged, DE flagging is minimized. For recorded complaints and initiate proper CAPA and must also discuss in weekly calls with the team on learning and preventive actionsand timely escalation of analytical complaints/ Legal threats
31. To spend quality time on understanding patient and customer VOC especially on cases we are not resolving on time. COL/Lab Head should guide the team to resolve issues on time andsupport them wherever technical input is required.
32. To participate in weekly meetings along with BU/SBU Heads to resolve issues as well as seek support wherever needs from nontechnical team.
33. To take responsibility to train the non-technical team for better business and customer engagement.
34. COL/Lab Head must contribute at least 8 hours in a month in training and sharing knowledge to the team through a formal mechanism.
35. To promote MHL test to larger communities of clinician through KOL Connects. They must use our report as a tool to promote test by recommending new test based on diagnosis in the report.
36. To make time at least once a month to meet B2B clients, collection centers, customers to understand the pulse of the market.
37. To follow guidelines objectively as per MHL Policy and ensure a culture of data-based decision making and discussions; hence every month compliance is very important. It is at most importance for to have self-Compliance from every lab and noncompliance is given utmost importance for closure.
38. To give sufficient time to check and review the Lab managers /Technical team on quality, material consumption and technical performance.
39. Ensure that processes needed for the quality management system are established, implemented, and maintained.
40. Reporting to laboratory management, at the level at which decisions are made on laboratory policy, objectives, and resources, on the performance of the quality management system and any need for improvement.
41. Ensuring the promotion of awareness of users needs and requirements throughout the laboratory organization.
