Role overview- Sector Operations (Banking & Payments)
Technical Architect

- As a Technical Architect, you will be responsible for designing scalable, secure, and high-performing technology solutions in the banking and payments domain. You will work closely with business stakeholders, functional consultants, and engineering teams to translate complex business requirements into robust technical architectures.
- What does this role entail?
- You will play a critical role in architecting and delivering end-to-end payment solutions aligned with ISO 20022 standards and global payment schemes. The role requires deep expertise in system integration, API design, cloud architecture, and payment processing frameworks.
- You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across geographies to design solutions supporting multi-bank, multi-scheme, and multi-currency environments.
- Core responsibilities as a Technical Architect would entail (but not limited to)
- As a technical architect, you’ll work as part of a team of problem solvers with extensive consulting and industry experience, helping our clients solve their complex business issues from strategy to execution.
- Strong understanding of ISO 20022-based payment architectures and end-to-end transaction flows, with experience in API-led, microservices, and event-driven architectures. Proficient in cloud-native platforms (AWS/Azure), integration frameworks (Kafka, MQ, ESB), and designing for scalability, resilience, and high availability. Familiarity with payment hubs (e.g., FIS OPF), security protocols (OAuth2, JWT), and DevOps/CI-CD practices.

- Strong analytical and decomposition skills to break down monolithic systems into modular, loosely coupled services
- Proficient in creating architecture artifacts such as HLDs, LLDs, sequence diagrams, data flow diagrams, and integration mappings
- Apply design principles (SOLID, DRY, domain-driven design) and architecture patterns (event-driven, API-led, microservices)
- Strategic mindset with the ability to evaluate technology stacks, platform capabilities, and build vs buy decisions
- Strong focus on non-functional requirements (NFRs) including scalability, performance, security, availability, and observability
- Experience in stakeholder management and leading architecture discussions, solutioning workshops, and technical roadmaps
- Support pre-sales and solutioning through effort estimation, architecture proposals, and RFP responses
- Ability to work in Agile/DevOps environments, collaborating across cross-functional squads and driving CI/CD and automation practices
- Proficiency in architecture and modeling tools (Visio, Draw.io, ArchiMate, UML) and documentation platforms
- Strong understanding of ISO 20022 message standards (pain, pacs, camt, admi) and end-to-end payment flows across clearing and settlement systems
- Experience in designing solutions for payment schemes such as SEPA, SCT Inst, UK Faster Payments, and cross-border (SWIFT)
- Expertise in multi-scheme, multi-bank, and multi-currency architectures, including routing, orchestration, and settlement mechanisms
- Knowledge of payment lifecycle management, including status tracking, acknowledgements (ACK/NACK), returns, recalls, and exception handling flows
- Experience with payment hubs/frameworks (preferably FIS OPF) and their integration with core banking and downstream systems
- Ability to design scalable payment processing systems handling high-volume, low-latency transactions
- Understanding of reconciliation, liquidity management, and reporting processes within payment ecosystems
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements (PSD2, AML, KYC) impacting payment system design
- Experience collaborating with business analysts, product owners, and engineering teams to translate functional requirements into technical solutions
- Strong understanding of integration patterns for banking systems, including API integrations, middleware, and message-based communication
