Overview
The Manager – Financial Reporting & Consolidation is responsible for leading the Group consolidation and external financial reporting process, including the accurate and timely preparation of monthly, half-year and year-end consolidated financial statements, statutory reporting and Japanese GAAP (‘JGAAP’) and US GAAP submissions. The role provides technical accounting support, oversees complex consolidation matters and actively supports the external audit process in a timely and proactive manner.
The role leads and develops the financial reporting team in India, partners with senior stakeholders across India, the UK and Australia, and drives stronger controls, standardisation, automation and continuous improvement to deliver high-quality reporting with maximum efficiency and minimum risk.
Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities
Strategic Focus
- Support the Group financial reporting and consolidation agenda, ensuring complete, accurate and timely reporting to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
- Provide technical accounting input on complex transactions, new reporting requirements and changes in accounting standards.
- Lead the implementation of the group reporting calendar, ownership model and quality review framework across reporting entities.
- Drive standardisation, automation and continuous improvement across consolidation, statutory reporting and close processes.
- Provide meaningful analysis and insights on Group results, balance sheet movements, cash flow and emerging risks.
Operational Management
- Own the monthly, half-year and year-end Group consolidation process in accordance with applicable reporting frameworks and agreed timetables.
- Actively participate and support month end close process including reviewing and approving journals and preparation of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Execution of quarterly and annual SOX controls and procedures.
- Review consolidation journals, foreign currency translation, intercompany eliminations, non-controlling interests, equity movements and other Group adjustments.
- Oversee intercompany balance confirmation and resolution, ensuring differences are investigated and eliminated on consolidation.
- Lead the preparation and review of statutory financial statements for subsidiaries and coordinate local reporting requirements.
- Manage subsidiary external audits, including planning, deliverables, issue resolution and timely closure of audit actions.
- Review complex transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, restructures, refinancing, impairments and other significant or judgemental matters.
- Prepare or review technical accounting papers, Board papers, reporting packs and accounting position papers.
- Review key balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow reporting, analytical reviews and management reporting outputs.
- Coordinate JGAAP and US GAAP reporting and ensure differences from local reporting frameworks are appropriately identified and recorded.
- Maintain consolidation systems, reporting structures and master data governance, partnering with Finance Systems to resolve issues and implement enhancements.
- Monitor delivery against the reporting timetable, escalate risks early and ensure appropriate review evidence and documentation are retained.
- Support ad hoc financial analysis, reporting and transformation initiatives for senior management.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach and develop the financial reporting and consolidation team, setting clear objectives, priorities and quality expectations.
- Allocate work effectively, manage capacity through peak reporting periods and maintain appropriate succession and cross-training plans.
- Review team deliverables, provide timely feedback and build strong technical accounting, systems and stakeholder-management capability.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, inclusion and continuous improvement across the broader Finance function.
- Build effective relationships across India, Australia and the UK and influence stakeholders to resolve reporting issues and meet deadlines.
Governance & Risk
- Ensure financial reporting complies with applicable accounting standards, legal and regulatory obligations, Group accounting policies and internal control requirements.
- Maintain an effective control environment over consolidation and reporting, including JSOX controls, reconciliations, review evidence and segregation of duties.
- Identify, assess and communicate financial reporting risks, control deficiencies and emerging issues, and oversee timely remediation.
- Ensure supporting documentation is complete, audit-ready and retained in line with record-management requirements.
- Uphold high standards of conduct, confidentiality and professional judgement, protecting the reputation of MUFG Pension & Market Services.

Experience & Personal Attributes
Experience
- Chartered Accountant or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- 8+ years’ progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, including significant Group consolidation and statutory reporting responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience leading a reporting or accounting team in a large, multi-entity and multi-currency organisation.
- Strong knowledge of international accounting standards and experience with JGAAP and/or US GAAP reporting is desirable.
- Proven ability to analyse and account for complex transactions and prepare high-quality technical accounting papers.
- Experience managing Group and statutory audits and building effective relationships with external auditors.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end close, consolidation, intercompany, statutory reporting, balance sheet control and cash flow processes.
- Experience designing or operating financial controls, including JSOX or SOX controls, and remediating control deficiencies.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong experience with ERP and consolidation systems; experience improving or automating reporting processes is highly regarded.
- Background in a chartered audit firm, ideally Big 4, is required.
