The Game Designer’s mission is to partner with the Producer, Product Owner, Lead PM, and other team members to determine and refine the product goals, assist other content designers, and help them maximize their potential and performance in creating game experiences. Reporting to the Creative Director, you will work with Producers, Game Designers, Product Managers, and external stakeholders to further the growth of the Studio.
- Lead and mentor the design team, fostering an environment of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Producers, Engineers, Artists, QA, and other stakeholders to implement features, systems, and content on schedule and to a high-quality standard.
- Define and design core gameplay mechanics, rules, and systems that create an engaging and enjoyable player experience.
- Oversee the creation and balancing of game levels, ensuring optimal player progression and satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain detailed design documentation, clearly outlining game mechanics, level layouts, and other critical elements for the development team to reference.
- Address design challenges and solve problems, ensuring solutions align with the game's overall vision.
- Take a holistic approach to quality and delivery, ensuring the execution of our experiences creates the best possible game.
- Encourage and model a culture of learning, humility, and inclusivity within the team.
- Conduct regular playtests and gather feedback to iterate and improve game designs.
- 6+ years of experience in game design, with a significant portion of that time in a leadership or senior role.
- Proven experience leading a team of designers, providing mentorship, and guiding their professional growth.
- Strong knowledge of game design principles, including gameplay mechanics, player experience, and level design.
- Expertise designing for different platforms (mobile, PC, console) and understanding their unique challenges and opportunities.
- Proficiency in game development tools and software (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine).
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a track record of addressing design challenges creatively and effectively.
- Experience with player retention, engagement, and monetization strategies.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and drive projects from concept to completion.
- Deep understanding of player motivation and market trends
- Experience with live services and game development.
- Knowledge of analytics and data-driven design.
- Scripting and Prototyping skills
- Understanding of different game genres and what appeals to their target audiences.
