Here is an opportunity for you to be part of this evergreen talent community. Yes, it’s not a challenge for a job opening, but more a fodder for the hungry minds, a challenging teaser to the builder of the new AI era, that may lead to new opportunities in Exasol.

How It Works?

• Show us how you think, build and solve it

• Enjoy handsome rewards for best solutions

• Get into our Exasol Evergreen talent community.

• As part of Exasol Evergreen talent community, you will be prioritized for roles opening within Exasol. You will also be invited to participate in their meetups, conferences, webinars and any other events. You could be eligible for testing Exasol pre-releases

The Challenge - Welcome to Exasol's Opensource Challenge

• Pick a public open source project that is not hosted by Exasol

• The project must have at least 100 stars on GitHub

• Make it compatible with or add a feature for Exasol (e.g., by contributing a connector to the upstream project)

• Add automatic integration tests

• The upstream maintainers must accept and merge your contribution

• Make sure you will be able to maintain it

• Present the result

Example Projects

The list below is just to show what kind of upstream projects we mean. Participants to not have to pick those. There are hundreds of potential projects out in the world.

• GitHub - xo/usql: Universal command-line interface for SQL databases

• GitHub - dbeaver/cloudbeaver: Cloud Database Manager

• GitHub - kayak/pypika: PyPika is a python SQL query builder that exposes the full richness of the SQL language using a syntax that reflects the resulting query. PyPika excels at all sorts of SQL queries but is especially useful for data analysis.

• Integrate with an existing open source project

• Ensure it is getting accepted upstream

• Make it maintainable. This is the most critical point

• Even if you maintain an upstream project, you can participate

❌ The Donts

• Don’t start a new open source project just to integrate Exasol

• Maintainability should not require rewriting and more work

Evaluation

If someone manages to fulfill all criteria of the challenge, we will do a code and documentation review, to gauge how well that was executed.

Criteria (in descending order of importance):

• Security

• User experience

• Performance

• Maintainability

Winners (multiple categories) will be declared post evaluation and prizes given.
