Engineering Manager - Arcnine

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager - Arcnine based in Canada.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership opportunity focused on building a new trading platform from the ground up. You will lead a team of full-stack and backend engineers through product development, launch, and early-stage iteration. Working closely with Product, Design, founders, and the CTO, you will help shape both the technical direction and the engineering organization. The role combines people leadership with active involvement in architecture, code reviews, delivery, reliability, and production operations. You will work in a performance-critical environment where speed, execution, and system reliability directly affect the customer experience. This is an ideal setting for an engineering leader who enjoys ownership, ambiguity, and building scalable teams and systems from the ground up.

Accountabilities

Hire,, mentor, and develop a team of full-stack and backend engineers for a new product.

Conduct regular 1:1s, establish clear objectives, provide actionable feedback, and support career development.

Own team performance management, including performance calibration and difficult performance-related conversations when required.

Partner closely with Product and Design to define, prioritize, and continuously refine the product roadmap before and after launch.

Guide architecture and technical decisions for a real-time trading interface and high-performance execution systems.

Remain hands-on with engineering work by reviewing pull requests, contributing to design discussions, evaluating technical approaches, and helping engineers resolve complex problems.

Own delivery in an evolving product environment, including sprint planning, progress tracking, prioritization, and scope adjustments.

Establish strong standards for testing, code quality, development practices, and CI/CD across a growing codebase.

Lead production reliability and observability initiatives as the platform approaches and progresses through launch, including incident response and operational improvements.

Establish engineering processes, norms, and practices that can support the team's growth over time.

Contribute to broader engineering standards, technical practices, and hiring processes across the organization.

Represent the product's engineering progress, technical risks, dependencies, and resource needs in cross-functional planning.

Collaborate closely with founders, traders, and other stakeholders to ensure technical decisions remain aligned with product and business objectives.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience managing or leading software engineers, combined with a strong hands-on engineering background.

Full-stack or backend development experience with technologies such as React, Next.js, Vue, Python, Node.js, C#, or Go.

Strong understanding of REST APIs and WebSocket-based real-time services.

Experience working with relational and/or in-memory databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, or MongoDB.

Experience operating production systems in AWS, GCP, or Azure environments, including Docker and Kubernetes.

Experience building products or systems from 0-to-1 in ambiguous, rapidly changing, or early-stage environments.

Strong technical judgment and ability to make architecture and engineering decisions in performance-sensitive environments.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and collaborate effectively with non-technical stakeholders, including founders and traders.

Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, feedback, hiring, performance management, and team development.

Ownership-oriented mindset with a practical approach to problem-solving, delivery, and continuous improvement.

Experience with fintech, financial markets, trading, or cryptocurrency is a plus.

Familiarity with real-time systems and event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka, NATS, or Pulsar is a plus.

Experience with TimescaleDB or ClickHouse is a plus.

Previous experience managing engineering teams for pre-launch or early-stage products is advantageous.

Experience managing teams that regularly use AI-assisted development tools is a plus.
