Cyber Security Automation Developer

The Cyber Security Engineering Vulnerability and Threat Management Team is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Automation Developer to design, develop, and support enterprise automation solutions that improve operational efficiency, reduce manual effort, and enhance service quality across the organisation.

You will be working closely with security, infrastructure, engineering, and business teams to identify automation opportunities, develop scalable solutions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires validated software engineering expertise, modern cloud development experience, and a passion for leveraging automation and emerging technologies to tackle sophisticated operational challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Develop automation for vulnerability remediation, patch deployment, configuration compliance, and orchestration activities.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and streamline operational and technology processes.
• Build automation workflows for infrastructure management, security remediation, configuration management, and operational support activities.
• Develop scalable software solutions, APIs, services, and web-based applications that enable operational efficiency and process optimisation.
• Design and implement integrations between enterprise applications, cloud services, infrastructure platforms, and third-party tools.
• Build and maintain reusable automation frameworks, modules, scripts, and tooling.
• Collaborate across teams including operation find opportunities for automation and process improvement.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices to enable efficient software delivery and deployment automation.
• Ensure all solutions are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with governance standards.
• Produce high-quality documentation, operational runbooks, and support materials.
• Explore and evaluate emerging technologies, including AI and machine learning capabilities, to enhance automation outcomes

Required Skills and Experience

Security Automation & Vulnerability Management

• Good understanding of infrastructure vulnerability management processes.
• Vulnerability assessment concepts
• Risk and severity scoring methodologies
• Patch management lifecycles
• Remediation practices
• Experience developing automation for:
• Vulnerability remediation
• Automated patching
• Configuration management
• Compliance validation
• Infrastructure orchestration
• Strong software engineering experience with TypeScript.
• Experience with Python and scripting languages including Shell and Bash.
• Experience with Rust or other low-level programming languages is desirable.
• Experience building and supporting full-stack solutions, including:
• Web applications
• APIs and microservices
• CI/CD tooling
• Automation platforms
• Low-level software and integrations
• Expertise in software development standard methodologies, object-oriented design principles, and secure coding methodologies.
• Knowledge of common algorithms and data structures used for processing and managing large datasets.

API Development & Integration

• Experience designing, developing, and integrating:
• REST APIs
• GraphQL APIs
• Security, authentication, authorisation, and secret management.
• Experience working with OAuth, API keys, tokens, certificates, and secure credential handling.

Cloud & Platform Engineering

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, particularly:
• Microsoft Azure
• Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Experience developing cloud-native automation solutions and services.
• Practical experience with:
• Docker
• Kubernetes
• Container orchestration platforms
• Understanding of modern infrastructure and platform engineering principles.

Automation & DevOps

• Experience building automation solutions for operational and infrastructure processes.
• Experience with:
• Azure DevOps
• GitHub Actions
• Jenkins
• Git-based source control platforms
• Experience developing orchestration workflows, operational tooling, and automated deployment solutions.
• Ability to create and maintain automation runbooks, remediation workflows, and self-healing operational processes.

Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Technologies

• Knowledge of modern AI technologies and their practical application within enterprise environments.
• Understanding of:
• Generative AI
• Large Language Models (LLMs)
• Prompt Engineering
• Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
• AI Agents and agentic workflows
• Experience integrating AI capabilities into automation solutions is helpful.

Testing, Quality & Governance

• Experience implementing automated testing and validation approaches.
• Knowledge of software quality assurance and release management practices.
• Understanding of security, governance, compliance, and operational risk requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related difficulty, or equivalent practical experience.
• Relevant certifications in cloud computing, software engineering, DevOps, automation, cybersecurity, or AI technologies.
• Experience working within large-scale enterprise, cloud, or security-focused environments.
